A View from the Roof: by Gary Phillips

Gary Phillips EcuadorMany people are considering moving to Ecuador these days, or any foreign country for that matter. And why not? Things in the states are not that good, and from all reports, the likelihood of significant improvement in the near future is slim.

But the idea of moving to Ecuador can be daunting too, especially for those who don’t have much international travel experience.

There is an old book floating around by a guy named Wallace D. Wattle. The book is called, “The Science of Getting Rich.” In this book Wattle presents some basic principles that if one can assimilate just a bit, doors can magically open and seeming miracles can happen.

I want to share some of these principles today with you. Even though I don’t profess to be an expert in the use of them, I have seen these principles at work enough times in my life to know that this is really the way it is.

Here are the basics, in Wattle’s own words:

There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe.

• A thought in this substance produces the thing that is imagined by the thought.

• A person can form things in his thought, and, by impressing his thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks about to be created.

• In order to do this, a person must pass from the competitive to the creative mind; he must form a clear mental picture of the things he wants, and must do – with faith and with purpose – all that can be done each day, doing each separate thing in an efficient manner.

There you have it. Another way to say this last point is, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.” Some of you may have taken your first step towards moving to Ecuador by reading this website.

So just keep taking steps, keep reading, do the things that come to you to do. And soon, like us, you will be here, too, enjoying the beauty and magic of Ecuador and wondering why it took you so long!

And that’s today’s View from the Roof.

Speaking of views from the roof, today marks the beginning of Holy Week, one of the biggest holidays in Ecuador. Cotacachi will have numerous parades to celebrate this holiest of weeks. Ecuador Holy Week

Here is a photo captured from our downtown Cotacachi roof top terrace of one of last year’s parades. Watch our blog this week for more photos of the events.
