Bahia de Caraquez Condo: New Listing

One of our favorite places on the coast is Bahia de Caraquez.   When we first visited a few years ago, it was a small almost forgotten place about an hour and a half north of Manta over very rough roads.

It had once been a booming community and resort town for wealthy Ecuadorians with lots of high rise condominiums.  But that all changed after a devastating earthquake in 1998, and a shrimp disease that hit the many shrimp farms that populate the area.  For all practical purposes, the town shut down.

When we first visited on a real estate tour in 2007, there were many condominiums on the market at very low prices.  You couldn’t hardly give them away.

My, how time have changed. Presidents Correa’s infrastructure renewal program has installed new almost super highways along the coast, and in November, 2010, the new bridge crossing the Rio Chone opened allowing fast access to the city from all direction, especially Quito.
