A View From the Roof: Our Freedoms–and Our Country–are Going Down the Drain

I spend a lot of time reading about the state of the world. Actually, more time than Linda would like for me to spend. My Blackberry allows me easy access to the internet and I check things out quite frequently.

Frankly, I am deeply disturbed by what I read. The stuff I am reading about the United States is telling me that the U.S. that I knew as a kid no longer exists. Not only does it not exist, it is becoming clear to me that it never did exist, except in our brain-washed minds.

Right now, the U.S. is going through a test. The next time you fly on an airplane you may have the following choices to make:  1) go through a scan that will show your entire body naked or 2) opt out of the scan and be subject to something that is absolutely unbelievable to me—to subject yourself to having your body and all your private parts felt, probed, and violated.  This applies to your children, too, if they are flying with you.  They will be poked and pawed by members of the TSA — all for the purported purpose of keeping you and America safe. (Listen to one of the best speeches ever given in the U.S. Senate here.)

If the people of the U.S. allow this type of personal violation to proceed, if this situation becomes the norm, then there is no hope for the future of the U.S. We will have become sheep, ripe for the slaughter—and deservedly so. The myth of American, land of the free, will be exposed for the lie that it is.

Harsh words, I know, but I have to call it like I see it.  (Listen to one of the best speeches ever given in the U.S. Senate here, and to a hilarious rap song, “Don’t Touch My Junk” here)

But the main question is how am I going to respond? Where am I going to be and what am I going to do when the lights go out?

Last week, we closed on our 10 acres of land just outside of Cotacachi.  So now, our focus is shifting. We have divided the 10 acres into two pieces, five acres for us and our children, and five acres for a few people we would like to have live around us. This means that we are going to withdraw to a certain extent from our website and from real estate sales.   Our intention is to create a sustainable farm.

We are no longer going to answer emails inquiring about Ecuador.  First, we don’t have time, second, much of the information people ask for can be found on our website and blog, and finally, I have developed carpal tunnel syndrome and can’t continue to spend long hours on the keyboard, even if I wanted to.

We will continue to help people purchase real estate, those who are serious about moving here, at least in the short term. We will not do a great deal of correspondence with people who are just tire-kicking. If you want to explore the possibility of moving to Ecuador, then we suggest that you attend one of our real estate and Introduction to Ecuador tours, which we will have about every two months, at least for the short term.

And why do I continue to say for the short-term? Because I don’t think we have much time remaining. The economic system is being brought down. Watch for the next false flag attack in the U.S.  It will be a signal that what little is left of the Constitution of the U.S. is finished.

Our primary focus now is on building a retreat for ourselves and perhaps for our children, if they want a place to come.

With everything that I said above, there is one possibility, one ray of hope that may carry the day. I believe that the original “Spirit of America” still exists, the same spirit that told the English in 1776 to get the hell out of our country.

This Spirit of America was re-kindled with the Tea Party movement, before it was co-opted by the powers that be, especially by the ultra-wealthy and conservative Koch brothers, and by Rush Limbaugh and Fox news.

This Spirit of America is not about intolerance of race, or about cutting taxes, or fighting the health care bill. It’s not about protecting torturers or having presidents who decide that they are above the law and have the right to kill American citizens in the interest of national security.

It’s not about bombing women and children and saying it’s alright because we are Americans. It sure as hell is not about having TSA goons feel up men, women and children at airports across our nation in order to keep our country safe, or about FDA swat teams breaking into raw milk-buying clubs with guns drawn, (watch video here) , or Amish farms, telling me that they control what food we put into our bodies.

And I guarantee you that it’s not about bailing out banksters while millions of U.S. families lose their homes and jobs. (Don’t miss this article about the war on the middle class by the rich.  If this doesn’t open your eyes, nothing will.)

The Spirit of America is about the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, it’s about the idea that all men are created equal, and that everyone is entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It’s about freedom of expression and freedom of religion, freedom to redress our grievances, and the freedom to bear arms.

And why are the powers that be trying to bring down the U.S.? Because we are the only country in the world whose citizens are armed to the teeth. As long as that continues, the powers that be can be defeated. Don’t Tread on Me.

And that’s today’s View from the Roof.

  1. Hola,

I am in Peru at the moment checking it out and next Bolivia. Then I will return to Ecuador because what I have seen so far in Peru only Cuzco where I am at the moment is nice. When I left the USA I failed the metal detector twice so I had to have the TSA patdown, wow was that hot! Since I am a nudist I would have no problem with the body scan, I could care less who sees what. Get used to it, this is all because of radical Islam! Thank God we have a Muslim-free zone, it is called Ecuador, and the rest of Latin America!

  2. Well Done Gary. While I am not American, I have been following the rubbish that passes for politics and wisdom in the US. I agree totally with you. The US is finally being seen by its own people for what the rest of us have seen for years.

It is most telling that when you finally get a president with brains, intellectual capacity and a realistic view of what can be done, others deem him dispensable because he has not performed miracles out of the disaster left by you know who. Fools that demand tax cuts when the only way out is to triple taxes for the next 50 years don’t have the wisdom to know how to effectively address the issues you raise.

My suggestion would be to watch Real Time with Bill Maker. He is the only one I have seen that actually has the temerity to present facts and evidence, not inflamed rhetoric and stupidity

  3. You can run but you can’t hide!

As long as you have a US passport you are still reporting to the US government. They know where you are and they can come and get you – and bring you home. They have done it in Ecuador – as well as in other countries.

Ecuador is a wonderful country, full of open hearted people, who, for the most part, like to live in harmony with each other and with their many US guests – but they won’t protect you unless you give up your US citizenship and take out Ecuadorian citizenship.

My Panama hat (made in Ecuador, of course) goes off to Linda for all the help she has been to the many uncounted people who have benefited from her posts and emails of support and assistance in the past. We all will miss her guidance and lovely quirks.

My Panama hat also comes off in salute to Gary, for his leadership in organising the real estate market in Cotacachi and to providing an alternative source of viewpoints on life in Ecuador and particular, Cotacachi – and for his organising real estate tours in the shadow of El Meson de las Flores (now known as Tierra del Sol).

Long life and blessings to you both for leading the way for many enlightend readers, perpetual travelers, and followers.

    Jose Cactus, esq.

  4. Thank you for the information which was informative & compelling.
Don’t lose faith, God proceeds all.
We are more, (much more) than what we perceive, just keep the faith of humankind and we shall all persevere.

Good post Gary. You are right on the money.I wish you well…….Ken

  6. Gary,
Most of your resources are good, but you got fooled on one of them…Common Dreams article about the destruction of the middle class. Common Dreams is a socialist-progressive website that is in the business of promoting class warfare with the goal of destroying the American government so as to rebuild it with a socialist-progressive model. They are slick in that they build on our passions and dislikes about current affairs to further the agenda of creating crises with the goal of governmental destruction. Classic Cloward and Piven.

America certainly has problems, but the answer is to revert back to the provisions of the Constitution and not a socialist or progressive model. There’ll be no personal liberty as a member of the collective.

    Mike

    • Hi Randy,

Great to hear from you!! Married and a baby already. Doesn’t seem like that long since you were here. Would love to see you.

      Best,
      Gary

  8. Hola,

I absolutely agree with you, and have been warning my family and friends for awhile now, but people still think I’m extreme, that everything will be fine. I am also looking for land that I can homestead outside of the USA, but now, with the TSA fiasco, I won’t fly, so that severely reduces my options. Putting fluoride into the public water supply has certainly had its effect on the general population, making them compliant and subservient to “authority.” The USA is now a country of drugged sheeple, and I want no part of any of this. You are lucky you moved when you did!

  10. Hi Gary,
I couldn’t agree more. Also, have you seen the latest from one of the 12 Grandmothers? Kiesha Crowther speaks of the damage done to Mother Earth, and the crisis we are now dealing with in this video speech from Zurich…

I think it’s time to circle the wagons!!!
